G.Manikantan hails from a family of renowned violinists.
He had his ' Gurukulam' under Sri Amritha Bharathiyar and furthered his tutelage under stalwarts like Ramanathapuram Sri M.N. Ganesa Pillai and Karaikudi Sri M.S.Mani
As a soloist, Manikantan has gained critical acclaim for his performances across the world, including countries such as India, Malaysia, Australia, South Africa,Mauritius, Indoneisa and Russia. A renowned artist from the All India Radio, Manikantan has also accompanied musical legends from all over the world. His sensitivity in bringing out the nuances of ragas and improvising on kalpana swaras are lauded by musical legends.
Manikantan has lent his skills to performing accompaniment for dance performances and music arangetrams in Singapore and all over the world.
He has incorporated his talents by playing with the NUS Fusion Orchestra and the Chinese Orchestra, giving performances in Singapore and overseas.
His skill as a violinist aside, Manikantan is a talented composer. He has composed Varnam, Jathiswaram,Thillana and Padam for dance performances,and his compositions were have well received by the audience.
In his pursuit to impart his musical knowledge to the next generation, Manikantan has taken on the role of Conductor of the Indian Orchestra in Raffles Girls' Secondary School.
He has used his unique ability as a composer to create several ragamallika pieces for the Singapore Youth festival.This has aided the school in clinching the Distinction award at the SYF for the past 10 years.Manikantan has also rearranged the OKTO Live theme song for the RGS Indian Orchestra that was broadcast on Mediacorp Singapore.
He teaches violin at the Temple of Fine Arts Singapore to further his pursuit for imparting carnatic music to students.
In recognition for his immense artistry, he was conferred the title " Isai Gnana Jothi " in India " Sangeetha Kala Nipuna " by Nrityalaya Aesthetic Society, Singapore,
and SANGEETHA SAMRAJ in Malaysia.
